WebPosition: New Features – White Labeling, Sharing and Export

by Tyler Suchman on July 25, 2010

Back in May, I wrote a review of the new web-based WebPosition, asking: Is The New Web-Based Reporter Worth It? The answer was a qualified yes, because there were some key features missing that allow a web marketer to provide great service and products to their clients.

My three criticisms were:
1. I couldn’t upload HTML reports to a server for my clients, nor was there a CSV export capability.
2. There was no white-label branding on the reports.
3. There was no ability to provide clients online access to just their reports.

So this weekend, I received a personal email from WebPosition (replying to my original email with the concerns), letting me know that an announcement of new features is forthcoming, and all three of these concerns were addressed. Now that’s kick-ass client service, and actually listening to the people that buy your products.

Let’s take a look at the new features.

1. There is now a CSV export function for every report. The data is clean, and easily sorted by search engine, position, change in position, my site or a competitor’s site and more. Grade: A
2. White label branding is now available by specifying a company name, company URL and uploading an image. White labeling is currently done at the report level, rather than at the account level or the client level (more on that in a bit). Adding branding on what could be dozens of reports would be a total pain. Probably the most user-friendly approach would be to set default white label options at the account level, and then have the ability to override those defaults at the report or client level. Also recommended dimensions for the header and a preview mode would be helpful. Grade: B
3. “Secure Online Sharing” allows us to provide clients access to their reports. However, this needs to be set for every single report, and clients need separate URLs and logins for each report. It’s really great this service exists, but the implementation of it is very clunky. Much of this would be solved if I could assign each report to a client, and then setup Secure Online Sharing on a per-client basis, rather than a per-report basis. Still, it makes WebPosition much more useful. Grade: C+.

Overall, I’m very pleased to see the ongoing development on the service, the highly responsive client service and implementation of very specific features I thought were sorely lacking. While there is room to improve, the app is definitely headed in the right direction, and I feel even more confident recommending it now than I did two months ago. I hope WebPosition keeps up the great work and continues to invest in itself. Overall Grade: A-.
