Managing Categories

Your content is grouped into categories. This makes it easier for your visitors, and also allows you to group entries onto pages or in sections. To modify categories, follow the directions.

  • From the Main Menu, under My Weblogs, click the Title of your website

  • In the left column, click Categories

  • To add a new top level category, click "Create new top level category"

  • To add a new sub-category, click "Create" next to the parent category, under which the new sub-category will reside

If your categories have been set up with numbers, i.e. 1 - Socks, 2 - Shoes, 3 - Pants, etc., then the category names being displayed on your site are actually the Category Description

  • to reorder categories, simply change the numbers, by clicking on a category, and changing the Label.

  • To add a new top level category, click "Create new top level category"

  • To add a new sub-category, click "Create" next to the parent category, under which the new sub-category will reside

  • click the new category to edit it, and treat the Description box as the display name

Managing Tags

If you are adding Tags to each of your entries, you can manage them in a central location, to consolidate and better organize them. For example, if some entries are tagged "city" and "council", while other entries are tagged "city council", you can create consistency so that all of the entries are tagged "city council".

  • From the Main Menu, under My Weblogs, click the Title of your website

  • In the left column, click Tags

  • In this admin interface, you have a snapshot of all of the Tags you are using throughout your entries. You can rename Tags, delete them, or change the Tags on the entries themselves (see the Entries link in the left column to view all of your entries).

  • In the "city council" example above, you could use the entries column to access the entries that have "city" and "council" as separate tags. In those entries, city and council would be separated by commas - simply remove the comma, Save, and the entry will be re-tagged "city council". The changes will be reflected on the Tags admin page and on the website.
